I was too old to participate in the Hitlerjugend mädel programs once the National Socialist party gained control of the Reichstag. But because of my familie's financial status, I was fortunate enough to attend Universität Trier for four years (38-42) where I earned my degree in art and literature. While in school I worked as a waitress and barmaid. I was able to secure a teaching position in an afluent Homburg finishing school shortly after graduation and had moved there to pursue that endeavor. Unfortunately, the school was destroyed in a series of Allied bombing raids in November 1943.
After returning back to Zweibrücken in Dezember of 1943, I enrolled in the SS Nachrichtung Schule für SS Helferin located at Rohrbach-Saar and completed an 8 week series of courses where I earned my Blitzen Sleeve diamond signifying my proficiency with communications equipment, codes and mapping.
I was assigned as an auxillary communications liason to Kampfgruppe Sonnenwende in August of 1944. |
