I attended the Universistät Stuttgart from 1930 to 1934 and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.  Was hired by Blohm und Voss in Hamburg in 1934 and was employed there when I joined the Leibstandarte SS-VT in 1938. 
 
I was awarded the ribbon bar for my participation in the Anschluß of Czechoslovakia in 1938.  I participated in the campaign in Polen in 1939 and was promoted to SS-Rottenführer in Oktober of 1940.

Was awarded the Infanteriesturmabzeichen im Silber in August of 1941 and the Ostfront Medaille in Februar 1942.  I was awarded the Eiserne Kreuz Zweite Klasse along with the Werwundenabzeichen im Schwartz in April of 1943 as a result of my participation in the Kharkov counter-offensive.  It was at this time I was promoted to SS-Unterscharführer. 
 
I was a part of the 8.Kompanie.II Regiment during Operation Zitadelle and received the Panzersturmabzeichen im Bronze as a result of my participation in this offensive.

I was promoted to SS-Oberscharführer and tranferred to the 1.SS Kaserne/training center in Berlin in Januar of 1944. 

I was appointed Der Spieß during this time and was assigned as the training liason Unteroffizier to Kampfgruppe Sonnenwende in August 1944.
