Gandolf Heiserman was born in September of 1889, in Lindenhof, Schwarzwald - the Black Forest region of southern Germany. His parents, Dieter and Dorothea, lived on a small farm. They raised dairy cows and grew crops, and sold milk and vegetables in the near-by villages. Dieter also drove a beer wagon for a local brewery. Gandolf served in the Imperial German Army during the Great War. He was an expert marksman on the battlefields of the Eastern Front. In 1916 he was wounded by a Russian artillwry round, but refused to be removed from active service, finishing the remaining months training sentry, messenger dogs and their handlers. After the war, Gandolf became a policeman, and served with the criminal police forces in Munich and Nuremburg. It was during these years that Gandolf witnessed the criminal acts and subversive revolutionary activities of the communists and Marxist union thugs. Like many police officials, Gandolf joined the NSDAP. His loyalty and devotion to duty brought him to the attention of the Gauleiter of Nuremburg, who suggested Gandolf volunteer for the newly created 4th SS Polizei Division. Gandolf and his gruppe were well known and feared by partisan guerillas and deserters from the Wehrmacht. With his squad of men, and their well trained Kriegshunde (war dogs), even the most cunning fugitives could be tracked down. No matter how difficult the conditions, Gandolf and his men never failed to capture their prey. |

n 1943, as a result of the assassination attempts on the Fuhrer, on the direct orders of Reichsfuhrer Heinrich Himmler, Gandolf was reassigned to the 1st SS Division, Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler. Here he served as a feldgendarmarie (military field police), and was charged with the protection of high-ranking political and military staff officers in his sector. Gandolf and his kriegshunde details were a most visible part of the Stabs Gruppe (Headquarters Group). In May 1945 Gandolf was captured by American Forces. Due to his long service as a police official, the Americans ordered him back to Nuremburg to again work as a policeman, to maintain order in post-war Germany. Gandolf's three sons also served the Fatherland. Christopher (GrossDeutschland Division), Erich (Luftwaffe Me109 pilot), and Tomas (Unterseeboot in the Kriegsmarine). Gandolf and his wife Greta live in an Alpine village in the Bavarian Alps, where they raise champion bloodline German Shepherds. |
